Strawberry Moisturizer

Strawberry Moisturizer
To make your own strawberry moisturizer, all you will need is 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons of smashed strawberries, and 1 drop of vitamin E oil. Mix all the ingredients until they are combined well. This is safe enough to use as a daily moisturizer on your face and body. If it is stored in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator, it will last for several weeks.

Oatmeal Body Scrub

Oatmeal Body Scrub
This body scrub contains many ingredients that will help your skin retain its moisture. You will need 2 tablespoons of rolled oats, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Grind the oats in a food processor until they have the look of sugar. Add the rest of the ingredients and combine well. In a circular motion, gently apply the scrub to moist skin. Rinse with warm water. This is gentle enough to use daily and can be used on the face and body.

Honey Bubble Bath

Honey Bubble Bath
This bubble bath will help to soothe your dry and itchy skin. You will need a bar of Ivory soap, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/2 cup of water, 1 cup of oatmeal, and your favorite essential oil. Cut the Ivory soap into small pieces and put it in a blender. Add the honey and water and blend until smooth. Put this mixture into a bowl and add two to five drops of essential oil. Clean your blender well, then add the oatmeal and blend until the oatmeal is a fine powder. Add the oatmeal to the soap mixture and stir well. Add the entire mixture to a warm bath and soak in it for at least fifteen minutes. Apply a skin moisturizer within five minutes of getting out of the tub to help seal the moisture into your skin.

Moisturizing Egg Facial Mask

Moisturizing Egg Facial Mask
Eggs are loaded with vitamins that can help to replenish the moisture in your dry facial skin. This mask also includes honey and olive oil, which are also believed to help keep your skin moisturized. Mix the yolk of 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of honey. Once you have blended these two ingredients together well, stir in 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Before you apply the mask wash your hands and face. Apply the mask to your face and neck. Leave it on for 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse using warm water, and gently pat dry with a soft towel. Although this is very gentle on your skin, it should not be used more than once a week.

Save money on household cleaning sprays and make your own natural solution.

Add orange peels (or any citrus peel) to a quart of white vinegar in a closed container and let it set for two weeks. Combine citrus-vinegar solution with half water in a spray bottle and use for cleaning. Works on floors, tiles, fixtures, kitchen & bath etc. It’s antibacterial, smells good and tough on scum! Best of all there are no chemicals.

Meatball and Spinach Soup - Theirs vs. Mine

I saw a recipe in the local grocery store and thought it sounded wonderful.  I started to buy the ingredients and then realized this could be a very expensive meal and I just wasn't going to sacrifice that much money for soup.  So, I decided to take the recipe and use less expensive ingredients and see if it would turn out as well.
This store makes these recipes up so people can taste them and like it enough to buy the ingredients that they have so conveniently right there beside the cooking stand.  I tasted theirs and I did mine.  Mine wins!

This is their recipe if you care to check it out so you can compare.

This is mine.  I even made it in the crockpot so it was even easier.

Meatball and Spinach Soup
2 - 14 oz bags for premade Italian style or original meatballs (I bought mine at Aldi for $1.99 a bag)

1 box (9 oz.) of frozen chopped spinach - thawed         Bought mine when it was on sale 50% off

1 - 32 oz box of Chicken Broth (I used Tuscan style for the spices).
Bought it BOGO - or you can use your own homemade.  If you use your own you may want to throw in a little basil, thyme and rosemary.

1 medium onion chopped

2 stalks of celery chopped

2 cans of cannellini beans - drained (use generic store brand if available or whatever brand that is on sale).

2 cloves of chopped garlic

1 or 2 tablespoons of oil for sauteing.

Saute your onions and celery until the onions are softened.  Add your garlic and cook a about 2 minutes longer.

Toss all the ingredients in the crockpot and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 to 8 hours.  Makes 6 (good size) servings

Valentine Handprint Heart

Valentine Handprint Heart

This is such an easy craft to decorate the hallway with this time of year and then send home as a sentimental keepsake. Simply paint the student's hands with a mini paint roller and then have the student press down inside a cut out heart. Fingerprint dabs around the edge of the heart, some ribbon, and decorative scrapbook paper really coordinate the whole project.

Reading Buddy - Children's Gift Idea

Reading Buddy Poem and Gift!

During Daily Five, my students are able to choose a reading buddy from our classroom basket to read to during Reading to Self. My first graders have loved the buddies all year long, so for Christmas I decided to give them all a new buddy to take home. I created this little poem to go on the gift tags:
I am your little reading buddy,
quiet as can be.
I will listen to you,
as you read to me.
Read to me anywhere,
anytime you can.
You will soon find,
I am your biggest fan!
Happy Reading!

I Love You S'more - Valentine's Day Idea

I went grocery shopping after school today and right in the middle of the cereal aisle I saw a display with these darling pink and white marshmallows. Immediately, my mind thought of Valentine Smores! I made this for my son tonight and he thought it was awesome. That is why I just love this time of year! It is a great time to indulge in chocolate and marshmallows:)

Cinnamon Toasts

Cinnamon Toasts

This recipe in its original form calls for dipping the bread in butter. On both sides. I tried it, and the bread got so saturated that it sort of terrified me. There was a LOT of butter in that little piece of bread. I found that brushing on the butter is a more moderate, palatable approach, and it still works very well. Either way, you’re going to use quite a bit of butter, and please don’t freak out about that. If it helps, keep reminding yourself that this is not breakfast; this is a cookie. Make it your mantra.

Also, the original version of the recipe calls specifically for Pepperidge Farm white bread. My grocery store didn’t have any, so I used Franz brand “Milk and Honey” bread instead. Whatever brand you use, make sure that it’s not too squishy and spongy. The quantities of butter and cinnamon sugar listed below should be pretty close to perfect for six slices of sandwich bread, but if you have extra butter or sugar, just use more bread.

1 stick (4 oz.) unsalted butter, cubed
6 slices white sandwich bread, or more as needed
½ cup sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 325°F. If you want, line a baking sheet with parchment or aluminum foil. It makes cleanup easier.

Put the butter into a pie plate or similar baking dish. Slide the dish into the oven, and keep an eye on it. You’re looking for the butter to melt completely.

Stack the slices of bread, and then cut them diagonally into quarters. You should have 24 triangles.

In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar and cinnamon. Turn the cinnamon sugar out onto a dinner plate, or another pie plate.

When the butter is melted, remove it from the oven, and brush it onto both sides of a triangle of bread. Don’t be shy: apply the butter generously, so no spot is left uncoated. The bread should feel a little heavy in your hand. Dip the bread into the cinnamon sugar, taking care to coat both sides. Lay it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pieces of bread.

Bake the toasts for about 25 minutes, until lightly browned. Transfer to a rack. The toasts will crisp as they cool. When cooled, store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Note: These taste best with a little age. When I tasted them on the day they were made, they were just okay, but by the next day, the flavors had come together nicely.

Yield: 24 pieces
